Air Mass RGB: Introduction (module)

airmass_intro_module_page2This training module provides the user with the fundamental aspects of the Airmass RGB, originally developed by EUMETSAT for use by the MSG/SEVIRI imager. This RGB is used to examine the stage of cyclone development as well as to identify areas of stratospheric ozone associated with potential vorticity anomalies. These PV anomalies are typically caused by strong jet streaks. This RGB uses several water vapor bands, as well as “ozone” and “thermal” bands to identify the aforementioned features as well as to differentiate tropical verses polar airmass regions via approximation of tropopause height.
